Ted Edwards for TF in the away end at the London Stadium.’

Fresh from Wednesday night’s heroics there was always the danger of an after the Lord Mayor’s Show kind of thing, I feared as we made our way to the London Stadium to take on David Moyes’ decent West Ham side.

In the first half we were guilty of overplaying a bit, which isn’t really us and given recent victories over possession heavy opposition in Man City and PSG it was maybe something of a novelty to gave so much of the ball.

Moyes’ men do what Moyes’ men do which was to sit back and allow the game to develop. In fairness, the first 45 minutes wasn’t a great half of football, topped off by conceding a poor goal to Soucek with Pope with questions to answer.

Bruno can think himself lucky to be on the pitch after two rash challenges. He needs to sort that part of his game as he won’t keep getting away with it. We all love him though.

Bruno Guimar’es ‘ more than love!

Not that we were without our own chances with Almir’n’s trademark of cutting in from the right and opening up on his left in the 32nd‘minute but unlike Wednesday, no luck in East London.

There was another chance for us as Trippier floated one but the subsequent header went narrowly wide. Apologies as it was at the other end of this weird stadium I couldn’t see it so that’s one to be checked out on MoTD for yours truly.

The consensus on the concourses amongst travelling Mags was the second half had to be much better.

Initially, it didn’t look like that was going to be the case where we seemed to be repeating the formula of lots of possession but little penetration.

Things start changing on the 56th minute when a Dan Burn header draws a great save from the Hammers’ ‘keeper and there’s a sense something is cooking for us.

And then the gears change and we have an equaliser through the ever alert Isak who latches onto a deflected ball played into the mixer by Trippier and we are 1-1.

You do need to watch the second goal because Trippier’s first time, cushioned, inch perfect cross across the goal to Isak put us ahead and all once again is fine in the world after it’s confirmed there’s no offside.

Now we start to show our quality, it’s taken an hour but it was worth the wait. Isak should have had his hat-trick but a tight angle snubs him out and his shot hits the outside of the post.

Suddenly we are on top all over the pitch but a lapse in concentration gives them a free kick just outside the box in the 78th minute. He doesn’t hit the target, he’s no Kieron Trippier.

They break well down our left and we don’t defend well for sub Kudus to level in the 89th minute. We hadn’t looked in any danger until then.

They have their tails up and Pope makes a great save in the 90th minute. This is a bit nervy now.

Six minutes of injury time pass without any massive panic.

The game ends in a draw a few of us would have been happy with before the game.

Forza Newcastle United
