Player Ratings to follow from Chris Shipman @ChrisShipman in the away end at St Mary’s’
Pope – Alert when needed although relatively un-tested. England’s true number one (7)
Burn – Solid and ever-dependable, even when not played in his natural position (7)
‘Botman – Generally solid although gave the ball up needlessly with wayward passes on a couple of occasions. (6)
Schar – A couple of strong blocks and partnered Botman effectively (7)
Trippier – Won pretty much everything in the air, despite being one of our smaller defenders, and always a danger going forward. A proper leader (8)
Longstaff – Unfussy but once again delivered. Back to his best (7)
Willock – Needed a goal and took it well. Brought energy, and stepped well up for Joelinton (7)
Bruno – The main man. An excellent goal and so composed on the ball. St Mary’s is proving a happy hunting ground (8)
Almiron – Has Jack Grealish scoffing humble pie week after week. His confidence is off the scale and it shows (8)
Wilson – Clearly wanted to back up last week’s performance with another strong display but midweek illness clearly hampered him. Given Calvert-Lewin’s injury and Toney’s brush with the authorities, should make the plane (6)
Murphy – Brought energy as ever. (6)
‘
Subs:
Manquillo – Good to see him again after so long but lacked match sharpness. Made some nice runs, but weaker defensively. (6)
Shelvey – Moved the ball around well. Did his chances for a start in mid week no harm (7)
Saint-Maximin – Off the pace but understandable given his recent injuries. He’ll bounce back soon enough. (5)
Wood – Big shoes to fill after Wilson went off, but an excellent instinctive turn and shot for his goal. (7)
Anderson ‘ A cameo on his birthday. Surely a start beckons soon? (6).
