At true faith towers we decided to get our top minds together to predict exactly what will happen at Newcastle United and beyond in the season ahead.

Unfortunately none of the top minds were available so you’ll have to make do with the following group of lads telling you what they think will happen.

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?

16th. A relegation battle ahead but we should have enough to survive IF the manager can get the best out of those players and organise as per Rafa. But Bruce doesn’t do tactics apparently. With supporters being at loggerheads with the owner, we’re in for a SJP full of frustration, anger and, dare I say it, potential trouble. 1988-89 was the worst on record. Players didn’t say the anti board chants didn’t effect them on the pitch but it must have as only 3/19 home wins later we were relegated. That was vitriol. Todays anger is a lot more controlled and perhaps played put to a social media audience.

Are you happy with NUFC’s transfer Summer business?

We’ve strengthened both full back positions and our striker options look better than the start of last season so that’s a positive. However, we’re looking weak in midfield and do we have any real strength in depth? I’d say no. But hey, we should be grateful the owner has spent HIS money. Cough. I must admit though, I was very pleased to see Carroll come back. I said months ago, sometimes players are simply meant for certain clubs and perhaps in my naivety, I can see him adding to that spectular form he had during 2010. Quite sad though that i’m hanging the proverbial hat on a 30 year old crock who arrived for £0.

Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?

A season ticket holder, i’m still undecided if I will go to any games. Aye, he’s “got my money” but its my seat and I wil do as I please. I don’t care for any team to be honest. I’ve fallen out of love with football over a number of years where my knowledge of opponents consists of remembering their line ups from 1989 or similar. I don’t get excited by (m)any fixtures anymore.

Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?

At this moment i’ve got no plans to go to many, if any aways. Maybe I should though as we always win when I go (well, twice last season).
However, i’ve got fond memories of qualifying for the UEFA Cup at Sheffield United back in 1994 so it’s probably time to head back there again.

Which player can you see failing to perform this season?

We’ve put too much hype on the Schar. Yes, he can score cracking goals and go on amazing runs but can he actually defend? There are reasons why players cost only £3 million. The jury is out on him and he could be found out this season. I hope not. I may add Ritchie to that following his stupid comment. You should have said nowt Matt. SJP is unforgiveable once you side against us and, with him being an edgy fucker, any negativity going in his direction might see him dropped for his own good. Sadly.

Will Steve Bruce be here at the end of the season?

I don’t think it matters who is in charge. As long as Ashley is here nothing will change. He probably will be still here cos he’s either kept us up or got “experience” in getting teams promoted. He’s in a win/win situation and the only thing that will see him go is pressure from the support. Rinse and repeat.

Who will win the league?

It’s boring isn’t it? One of Liverpool or Man City. I’d prefer Liverpool though, just for a change.

Who is going down?

Norwich, Sheffield United and Brighton. Newcastle United if the supporters cause trouble all season and we get points deducted.

Marc Corby @NUFC_1980_1994

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?

Just above the relegation trap door. Either by accident or by design, United have retained much of the core of Benitez’s squad, and have augmented with pace. The question mark comes with Bruce, who is a tenth the manager of his much-missed predecessor.

Are you happy with NUFC’s transfer Summer business?

I’ll give it a fairly solid 7. Late to act as ever, but Joelinton looks a prospect and ‘St Max’ an exciting maverick to get defences guessing. Carroll is one for the romantics. Rondon and Perez will be missed.

Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?

The toughest games are the reason why we fought so hard to get back to the top table a few season ago – pick any of the top six. Plus Crystal Palace for the potential bragging rights over my South London pals.

Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?

Brighton. Always a pleasure, never a chore. A lovely day by the sea in a city I lived in for five years.

Which player can you see failing to perform this season?

An unpopular pick but Matt Ritchie. Has been a great servant the past few years but will fade at some point soon given that he’s pushing 30. Has plenty of competition. His drive and will to win will only get him so far.

Will Steve Bruce be here at the end of the season?

A tough one. I said ‘no’ on the Exiles podcast, but I fear he’ll be given an unnecessary amount of time. A tentative (if depressing) yes.

Who will win the league?

Liverpool. This will finally be their year. Cue Klopp’s gleaming smile come May.

Who is going down?

Crystal Palace – the Zaha saga may sink them.

Norwich – perennial yo-yoers

Sheffield United – this year’s Huddersfield

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?

I predict anywhere between 12th and 16th. Despite the fact that the ability gap between Bruce and Benitez is similar to that of Leon Best and Alan Shearer, I think the squad is strong enough, disciplined enough and talented enough to survive quite comfortably. The talent of Almiron, Maximin, Joelinton, Longstaff, Schar, Lejeune and Shelvey, backed by the defensive solidity and on-pitch cohesion instilled by Rafa and his coaches over the course of their 3 years at the Club will ensure that enough important points are picked-up and enough battles are won. If Bruce managed to reverse the work done by Rafa et al so quickly then that would be some achievement. I might have a completely different answer to this question in 12 months.

Are you happy with NUFC’s transfer Summer business?

I’m happy with the players that have arrived, absolutely. Maximin and Joelinto are exciting in the sense that they could be gems or they could be wholly unsuited to a Premier League dogfight. However, we’ve bought pace, skill, power, technique and, in bringing Andy Carroll back, someone who, if we can coax 15 apps out of him, offers us something we’ve not had for years as an option if required – the ability of a substitute to cause complete panic when brought on with 20 minutes to go.

Not signing Rondon for the paltry money he was available at was frustrating. If you listen to general football podcasts, i.e. TFS, Guardian etc. it was widely agreed that there’s pretty much no one else in the PL capable of playing the role he played last season. He was massively impressive and well-liked by the fans. His signing would’ve probably temepered (only ever so slightly) the fury instigated by the Rafa leaving debacle.

Perez going is a shame and his reasons are valid regarding the club’s lack of ambition. However, I don’t think he’ll be missed as much as I thought he might now we’ve brought in Maximin.

We still need full-backs. The fact that our last 3 right-backs have cost 5 million or under suggests that we’ll struggle against teams playing expansive flank-to-flank football.

Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?

Which team am I looking forward to seeing on Telly at St James’ Park?! This season I’ll be looking forward to Villa because I hate them and it’ll be so spicy with Bruce being their former manager. Big Andy hat-trick and a 6-0 would be nice.

Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?

Leicester. Not only have the last 2 performances there been superb but I like drinking there and it has one of the best curry houses I’ve ever visited in my life. The journey from London is less than 1.5 hours by train which means I’m not too blotto by the time I arrive. Even if we lose this season I know I’ll have a cracking day and evening. I love the curry so much that I even tried convincing my wife we should have a weekend up there. It’s a suggestion that didn’t fly how I wanted it to.

Which player can you see failing to perform this season?

DaAndre Yedlin. To all intents and purposes he was off to Palace on deadline day which suggests that he’s not hugely in Bruce’s plans (Krafth arriving, Manquillo reinforcing that opinion). If he is given an opportunity in the side it’ll be tough for him to reach the standards he did under Rafa. He improved vastly as a defender but I fear without the micro-managing and coaching he got under the Spaniards, he’ll struggle and probably be sold during the next window. I hope I’m wrong as he’s very likeable.

Will Steve Bruce be here at the end of the season?

Yes. We’ll stay-up so it’ll be mission accomplished.

Who will win the league?

I can’t look beyond City. Liverpool are great but I just can’t see how they’ll repeat their league season of 18/19. City however are just so, so consistent. The unstoppable force. To paraphrase from Terminator, ‘City is out there! It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop… ever’.

Who is going down?

Norwich, Burnley, Palace.

Norman Riley

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?

17th for me.
The annual relegation slog that should have been put to bed for this season but wasn’t.
We don’t have the greatest of squads and now, we don’t have the greatest of coaches either.
We’ve had some tough times the last couple of seasons but had a manager capable of turning the corner and possibly over achieving.
I’m not sure we can recover this time round if we get off to a poor start.
Hope I’m wrong, but as things stand right now, I don’t see it.

Are you happy with NUFC’s transfer Summer business?

I’m relatively happy with the signings but I fear their lack of Premier League experience could be there downfall.
We’ve needed cover in the full back area’s and we got it, though time will tell if we’ve upgraded.
A lot of hype around our attacking additions but it’s going to be tough for them as the league is a big step up for both of them.
I’d have preferred another striker to come in with experience in the division, who would be fit when needed.
I don’t go along with the whole “returning local hero” bit though if he gets fit enough, he could prove me wrong.

Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?

Anyone who I think we could beat!
I don’t really get excited by the whole “big 6” thing, though it’s great to beat them now and again.
I’m not sure we have it in us to take them on this time round but who knows.
I’ll take Norwich for this one as they’ve tended to be entertaining games in years gone by.

Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?

Spurs and their new stadium would have been top of the list, but unfortunately I’ve got to miss it as I’m on holiday.
So I’ll go for Sheffield United.
Not been there for a fair few years now. Doesn’t look as though it’s changed a lot over the years and used to be a canny away day.

Which player can you see failing to perform this season?

Allan Irénée Saint-Maximin
I really hope I’m wrong on this one as he looks exciting and we need him to perform.
Seems very much the showman and a “look at me” type of player so he’s there to be shot at.
Unless he can get 5 goals and double figures in assists he won’t have matched the hype imo.
Sorry if that’s harsh, but if you want to act the part, you have to produce at the end of it.

Will Steve Bruce be here at the end of the season?

I think he will.
Whatever failings the owner and his cohorts have, they tend to have stuck by most managers.
Very few have lost their jobs and most who have left have chosen to do so.
As I’ve predicted a finish outside the bottom 3, Bruce will have fulfilled his obligation.

Who will win the league?

It’s quite tough to choose between last seasons top 2.
I’m not sure there has been a great deal of change in either side over the summer or enough to make a difference.
Simply on that, I’ll go for Man City again.
I’m not sure anyone outside of the top 2 from last season will get close enough to challenge.

Who is going down?

Not us though part of me thinks that won’t be good for the long term future of the club.
Brighton have flirted with it a couple of times so I’ll take them.
Burnley were awful last year and I’d like to see them go on that basis and they are poor enough to do so.
Of the promoted sides, I think Sheffield United will be the weakest and they will go as well.
I’d expect both Villa and Norwich to be down there but stay up.

Steve Wallwork. @stevewallwork

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?
17th. Hate to be negative (although some might see this prediction as being optimistic…) but I don’t think we have strengthened enough to cope with the loss of our two top goalscorers from last season. It is possible Joelinton could be a hit and I really hope he is but we don’t have anyone in our squad who has hit 10+ top flight goals in a season and that worries me. Pre season suggests we’ll create more chances but we also got beat 4-0, something that only happened once under Rafa, but regularly under Pardew, McLaren etc, and whether we go back to that might be the key to where we ultimately finish.
Are you happy with NUFC’s transfer Summer business?
Underwhelmed for above reasons, ultimately squad and first team in my opinion hasn’t improved and that is a worry.
Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?
Villa, hate Villa and would love to send them back to Birmingham with a hammering.
Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?
Bournemouth, it is always a cracking away trip and normally an entertaining game one way or another!
Which player can you see failing to perform this season?
Lascelles – unsettled at times over the last couple of years and a bad start could see a return of that
Will Steve Bruce be here at the end of the season?
No
Who will win the league?
Man City. I went to the Community Shield with one of my City supporting mates and was very impressed with their new signing Rhodri – big, strong and technically gifted, will strengthen them further and can’t see them being caught.
Who is going down?
Sheffield United, Palace, Norwich

Sean Orrick

I think we will finish 16th this year. United will start slowly and then have to battle to get points on the board the rest of the season. We’ll strengthen in January and

Narrowly avoid relegation late in the season.
Relatively happy considering the horrific start to the summer. We’ve brought in some exciting players and I’m delighted Carroll is back – keep him fit and he can be lethal. As a kid I dreamed of the toon signing a Brazilian striker and we’ve finally done it. It doesn’t come close to making up for the fact we’ve lost Rafa though.
Liverpool. Atmosphere is always good (and if people they’ll still be annoyed that their fans got into our end) and we fucking owe them one for last season. Was never a free kick.
Sheff United. Proper football team in a proper football city in the north. Can get there and back in a day – what away day travel is all about.
Putting myself at huge risk of being made to look a fool here – but I’ve got a feeling this season might not go Shelvey’s way. I think Longstaff will become our most influential midfielder and creative outlet and Shelvey will struggle alongside him. Might be (and hope I am) spectacularly wrong.
No.
Man City. They are relentlessly brilliant, and think Liverpool can’t sustain their brilliant form from last year for another full season.
Sheff United, Norwich, Vile (hope so so much they go down the horrible pricks).
Michael Carling @mmmiiiccckkkyyy
Where will NUFC finish this season and why?
17th. I think we’re going to haemorrhage goals under Steve Bruce and we’ll have to rely on Rafa’s influence lingering to stop it being even more.
I worry about our attack too. We didn’t score enough goals last season, and we haven’t even returned to default after Perez/Rondon departures. Are you happy with NUFC’s transfer Summer business?
I’m pleased with some of the talent we’ve acquired, however it simply hasn’t been enough. Having too much deadwood on the books has limited us in terms of incomings, which are themselves a result of underinvestment and negligence by the owner over the years.

Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?

Sheffield United. Original Premier League member and club my cousin supports. We’ll be making a proper day of it. They were screwed over by the Tevez debacle years back, so good to see them back.

Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?
My first away match of the season will be at Anfield, and I’m really excited to experience the atmosphere there for the first time, which should be electric given the recent successes under Klopp.

Which player can you see failing to perform this season?
Muto, Gayle, Carroll. Basically all our strikers bar Joelinton.

Will Steve Bruce be here at the end of the season?
No, can’t see him lasting the season. Neil Redfearn’s Black and White Army.

Who will win the league?
Man City

Who is going down?
Brighton
Sheffield United
Norwich

Adam Widdrington @AddingRandomWit

Where will NUFC finish this season and why?

I said on the season preview pod that we’d finish 9th. I just think the middle of the table isn’t all that a matter of a few points separates about 7 or 8 positions, most of the squad know it takes to survive in the league that base with the unknown quantity that is our front three we should score a few more goal this season

Are you happy with NUFC’s transfer Summer business?

Yeah not bad, would’ve liked to signed a bit more proven quality but we know Ashley/Charnley don’t like that due to a lack of sell on value as much as the new lads excite you know there’s a fear they won’t adapt to their surroundings or be up to scratch, time will tell.

Which team are you looking forward to welcoming most to SJP and why?

Villa just so we ram another 6-0 hammering down their throats (I’m fully aware that this probably won’t happen)

Which team are you looking forward to visiting away from home and why?

Norwich early doors should be good, been a few times in the middle of winter so this season will be a nice change. And who wouldn’t relish a cold Tuesday December night in Sheffield I’m all over that

Which player can you see failing to perform this season?

Our fullbacks still needed instruction last season but we’ve added numbers in this area

If Shar is expected to defend a lot he might struggle

Joelinton has a lot of pressure to get up and running early doors he could go the way of Cisse and burst onto the scene or Jon Dahl Tomasson
Will Steve Bruce be here at the end of the season?

Ah Weyaye, keeps us in the league keeps his job, get relegated he’s prime candidate for getting us promoted again, the perfect fit for Ashley

Who will win the league?

Liverpool, absolutely relentless last season they’ll win it as Man City hoy everything at the Champions League. It’ll be close again.

Who is going down?

Brighton

Norwich

Sheff Utd (mind I’m quite looking forward to seeing how they play)

Paul Lyon @lyon1892
