A bit of a rest from the well-reported takeover rumours with some catch-up on other United related patter. Nowt seems to have been happening today on that front.

The Chronicle referred to former AC Milan man (and Rangers midfielder for those with long memories) awaiting contact from United for a potential post at SJP. This isn’t really accurate as the attached details CONFIRM – CLICK HERE

Gattuso is nailed on to go to Sampdoria.

Martin Hardy, formerly of The Independent now with Off The Pitch and close to the United scene had a piece setting out that United were committed to concluding talks with Rafa to keep him at United – click here.

However, this week Simon Bird, The Mirror also carried this story that Rafa, completely in the dark of the take-over was naturally seeking assurances about United’s intentions and the small matter of his contract – click here

BACK FROM THE BRINK

This is a very good piece in The Guardian from Sid Lowe and features the recovery of Jose Enrique, formerly of this parish and possibly the last proper Left-back we’ve had, who has been in recovery following the removal of  a brain tumour click here

RED OR DEAD

You will remember only a week ago several news-lines were reporting an imminent bid from Man Utd for Sean Longstaff. That hasn’t happened.

INTERNATIONAL BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS

Best wishes to Miguel Almirón who has been named in the Paraguay side to compete in the Copa America in Brazil this summer. Christian Atsu has been included in the Ghana side for the AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS this summer. United goalie Martin Dúbravka is in the Czech Republic  for their games against Jordan and Azerbaijan. Young goalie Freddie Woodman is in the England Under-21 squad for this summer’s European Championships. Fabian Schär is in the Swiss squad for the Nations League Finals in Portugal.

TRANSFER TITTLE-TATTLE

Various news sources has United in the running for 22-year-old Brazilian striker Wesley Moraes of Club Brugge. Some have gone so far as suggesting contact has already been made between the clubs. No idea about any fees etc.

Andy Carroll has been released by West Ham. He’s been plagued by injuries since he left United and he’s 30 so likely to be well-off the radar for us. Don’t be surprised to see a few more Carroll Return stories though.

United have also been linked to Everton’s 28-year-old midfielder James McCarthy.

Dwight Gayle is supposedly attracting interest from Leeds, Fulham and PL new-boys Norwich and Villa. We’re being quoted as wanting 20 millions  for a lad who knows his way round the Championship but not so much in the PL.

One news source has interested in ex-Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel but as he’s 34 and being playing in Turkey that would appear to be rubbish. He’ll likely go to Rangers to team up with his old team-mate Steven Gerrard.

Another piece of news has us interested in Benfica’s massive Greek goalie Odysseas Vlachodimos, who might rush us for 13millions of the alleged 50 millions Rafa supposedly has in his summer kitty. So, unlikely then with Dubravka doing well and Woodman coming through.
