Newcastle United have today launched their new home kit which they claim is a tribute to the Fairs Cup win of 50 years ago. Well, it does have a round neck but that is about it.

If we were being a bit, you know, picky about the claim the Puma abomination was a tribute to the Fairs Cup winning side of 1969, we’d point to the width of the stripes, which is a pretty fundamental requirement of any Newcastle United shirt. The Fairs Cup shirt didn’t have exclusively black sleeves either which the promotional pic appears to have and if we were being a little unkind, looks rather like a West Brom shirt with the dye gone a bit too dark.

Anyway, here is a version of the Fairs Cup winning shirt and you can judge for yourselves if the club’s claim it is a tribute or well, a bit of a load of old garbage put out to spin yet another poor design from Puma. Obviously no picture of a Puma on the Fairs Cup shirt or minty Chinese betting site logo which is only marginally better than an advert for a loan-shark.
