Various Sky Sports news-lines have tonight reported that Ayoze Perez is on the point of joining Leicester City and may have a medical this week. If this happens it would run contrary to press stories linking the former Tenerife man to a return to his native Spain where there had been supposed interest in him from Valencia and Seville. Any move to Leicester however hints at the impact Rafa Benitez’s departure has had on the players who so valued his management and coaching. If Newcastle United can no longer offer a better option for a middle-ranking player like Ayoze than Leicester City, then we are indeed in very troubling times.

There is no reportage of any fee involved, though the Foxes may be cash-rich following the potential big money coming their way for Maguire who could be joining Man Utd very soon. Not that any fee matters to United as it will likely fall into a big Mike Ashley shaped black hole much like the fees raised from the sales of Andy Carroll, Sissoko et al.

United are highly unlikely now to sign Rondon, are on the point of losing Joselu and Perez so at present Dwight Gayle is the only striker in the first team squad and he spent last season on loan to West Brom in the Championship.

We are constantly told by the media Man Utd are about to make a move for Longstaff (they may have done so already) and there is no football person to argue against what could turn out to be something of a fire-sale. Whether this is all a prelude to a takeover being completed only time will tell but at the moment it looks like wanton vandalism.

This summer could get worse by the week.
