Newcastle United have had a £4:5m bid for Amiens full-back Swedish right back Emil Krafth rejected.

There is discouraging reporting regarding the club’s chances of signing Nice’s midfielder Allan Saint-Maximin who United have made insufficient bids for. Charnley has managed to sign some players on free transfers and recycle the Perez money for Joelinton.

There is some anxiety that with his contract up for renegotiation and his age, United might be tempted to cash in on Martin Dubravka who has not featured in the last two friendlies.

Matt Ritchie pulled a hamstring at Hibs last night (the kinds of injuries we’d forgotten about under Rafa but perhaps signs of things to come) and is expected to at least miss the start of the season. Bruce commented:

‘That’s the awful thing tonight because we’re a bit shy in that area. He’ll have a scan in the next 48 hours and hopefully it’s not too bad. He’s nicked a hamstring. Whether it’s a strain or how serious it is we do not know, but for him to come off with it, that’s not a good sign.’

We’re a bit shy almost everywhere, let’s be honest.

There is no reported progress on any new signings.

Bruce has said the priority is forwards: “We want to add one of two in the striker positions”. He’s on the ball this bloke.

The transfer window closes a week tomorrow. One signing has been made for the new season. The last pre-season game is this coming Saturday v St Etienne at St James’ Park.
