The Chronicle will be pleased with themselves that they have managed to get something apporoximating an interview with Newcastle United’s so-called Managing Director, Lee Charnley. The interview is so thin you’d have to wonder if it has been of the e-mailed questions with e-mailed answers variety. Similarly, there is so little information contained within it you wonder if Lee Ryder, not known for his Jeremy Paxman levels of forensic questioning, even managed to get in front of Charnley to ask the questions.
Anyway, you can get at the interview by clicking here.
You can speculate what The Chronicle has given up or agreed to to get on the right side of Charnley.
In the report and on the subject of the training and academy facilities Charnley appears to paint the picture that it is players v wages v training facilities. No-one would really expect the payment for new improved facilities to be paid in one go and some level of loans/mortgages to be arranged – like the SJP extenstion etc. Some times its like we’re dealing with a child.
Reports across various media are reporting that United are ready to improve Sean Longstaff’s weekly wage from a reported £25K pw to up to £80K pw given they have valued him at £50m amid interest from Man Utd. Let’s see if that actually happens. Bruce has also made public statements about wanting to tie down Ritchie and Dubravka down to deals but neither will likely have a re-sale value at the end of any extended contracts so that one seems curious given Ashley’s desire to not have players over 30.
Again, there are news lines showing that Jonjo Shelvey may be fit for the game against Norwich after all.
It is to be hoped Steve Bruce has explained to all of the players what positions they play in before the weekend. That might be a help.
