Ian Murtagh of The Star is reporting that Mike Ashley spent two hours at Darsley Park in Benton today mainly talking to Steve Bruce and his coaching team. There is speculation that the discussions were detailed on transfers. Click here There is no information if those discussions about transfers were incoming or outgoing. The sight of Ashley’s helicopter in Benton has previously been a prelude to a big outgoing sale. Andy Carroll anyone?

Its also reported that Ashley watched the players training.

Ashley made his trip by helicopter and did off just after 3pm.

This should be an entirely normal event but as we’ve seen from previous managers and not just Rafa, Ashley has largely been a mystery figure or absent landlord if you like.

Bruce has said of the meeting: “He met the new centre-forward. He took an interest in training and wished us all luck. I think it is always key to have a positive relationship. You need to get on with the people you work with. I am not interested in what went on before. So far he has been straight. I have asked a couple of questions and got straight answers.”

He’ll learn.

A so-called national newspaper is also claiming Steve Bruce was unaware if new signing Joelinton could speak English or not ahead of meeting him. Not sure if this is really news to be honest.
