Dúbravka – 7 – Kept a clean sheet and that’s all that really matters. Didn’t have too much to do between the sticks but at the end of the day he’ll take those 6 fantasy football points.

Manquillo – 8 – A typically solid performance from our best defender at the club. A very intelligent footballer – he knows exactly when to get forward and he knows exactly when to track back. Rarely caught out of position and we look so much better with him in the team.  With fullbacks becoming the most important position in modern day football, I think he can play a big part in the future of this football club.

Schär – 7 – Very difficult to judge him against such dreadful opposition but he did his job and again it’s a clean sheet so happy days.

Lascelles – 7 – Was gobsmacked he was brought straight back into the team after Fede’s performance on Tuesday night, but again he did his job, so fair play. You can’t ask for much more than that.  We have to find a way to get Fede back into the team though.

Lewis – 6 – The bar is set so low with this lad that when he has a vaguely decent game some fans think he’s Roberto Carlos.  Get a grip.  He has looked okay these last two games against Championship opposition but I want to see much more from him these next four fixtures.  Again I would 100% persist with him over Ritchie, as right now we don’t really have a choice, but he’s far from the finished article. I would love to see him spending more time on the training ground with Manquillo – a proper fullback.  But I’m sorry to say I would make a new left back our main priority come 1st January.  He just doesn’t look confident enough

Shelvey – 7 – Again decent, all you want from Jonjo is graft and the occasional wonder ball, and he did both of those things.  He has often been the scapegoat for Toon fans but I’d be staggered if anyone who was at the ground thought he had a bad game today.  If he can control the game against Leicester next week with Tielemans out we’ve got a chance.

Willock – 5 – Very difficult to give a rating less than 5 today when we won, but in my opinion he was the worst player in black and white today. Didn’t work hard enough.  I’d drop him for Hayden for the next four.  Right now I just can’t see him working hard enough against Leicester, Liverpool, Man City and Man U – four games where we won’t have much of the ball.

Almirón – 7 – Worked his socks off and covered more ground than most today.  You don’t expect individual brilliance from Miggy but you expect the graft and he delivered.  Can’t criticise him at all today, well done son.

Saint-Maximin – 6 – Pains me to say it but he didn’t have his best game today.  I hate to criticise the lad as he can come up with moments of magic at the drop of a hat, but I’ve got to call it like I see it.  He wasn’t that great today.

Joelinton – 8 – My word how I was wrong about him.  He has turned into a world beater under Eddie Howe.  Looks like a cross between Jorginho and Firmino (the goals are coming) and could literally play anywhere on the pitch.  Absolutely brilliant again and just misses out on man of the match to this man…

Wilson – 9 – Got the goal that could prove to be the one of the most important goals in the history of this football club.  He’s in the team to score goals and goals alone, and for that reason he’s my man of the match.  Runs the channels all day long, and causes havoc for defenders.  If we can keep him fit this season we’ve got a chance of doing what many ‘pundits’ call the impossible.
