Alex Hurst with the Player Ratings from the away end at Turf Moor.
Burnley 1 Newcastle United 2, Turf Moor, Premier League, 22/May/22, KO: 16:00
A great win to end a great season. Days like today are what good sides do. Turn up expecting to win and leave having won. Onto next season
Martin Dubravka 8 – Burnley had their 10 minutes at the end and our Slovakian stood tall and handled really well. Maybe we need better next season as we need better on the ball but MD is a legend and a fans player.
Kieran Trippier 8 – The man is very, very good at football. The Burnley fans applauded an NUFC player off the pitch after their relegation. That says more than I could.

Jamaal Lascelles 7 – last game at United for the skipper? Commited as ever and some big blocks and headers. Did well without out excelling. Still panics with the ball at his feet which is why he’ll probably be moved on. Played well though,
Dan Burn 9 – Absolutely class again. Dominant in the air and on the floor. This lad is the real deal and one of the great mid season signings.
Matty Targett 8 – defends by himself down that side and still manages to look solid. Goal came from that side but not his fault. Sign him
Miguel Almiron – 6 – A very Miguel Almiron performance. Graft in abundance and gets himself in promising positions but rarely delivers. Like him a lot but we need better moving forward

Sean Longstaff – 8 – Really good game on the ball and his cause has been done no harm by the last two performances. Could be his last game for United. If so it’s a shame but not a tragedy
Bruno Guimares – 7 – Ran the game for 70 mins and then won every tackle and in the last 20.
ASM 7 – Great ball for the second goal but then probably at fault for their goal. He’s managed to contribute while still out of sorts. We’re a better team with him in it
Callum Wilson 9 – The job Eddie Howe has done is more remarkable because of his absence. We need 25 starts from him next season,
Subs – Jacob Murphy – 6
Chris Wood – 5
I think Longstaff has a future at the club at least for the next 2 seasons, if he continues play like he has in the last two games he could push Willock and Shelvey down the pecking order.
Imagine starting with Bruno, Joelinton and Longstaff and have Willock come on with 30 minutes to go to get at a tired defence with runs into the box.
I think 7 is harsh for Bruno – it wasn’t his best game, by his incredible standards, but even your own comment makes me think “8”
Conversely I think you’ve been slightly generous to Sean. He had a decent game and did well, but he wasn’t as important or involved as Bruno – so for me that’s a solid 7.
Agree with everything else though.
