No Newcastle United this weekend but plenty non-league football to wet the appetite of those of us who want to put a big coat on and get out and support our local clubs.

There are loads of attractive matches this Saturday coming but for us the pick of the bunch is South Shields v Newport Pagnell in the quarter final of the FA Vase at Mariners Park in sunny South Shields.

Shields have at last been pulling in decent crowds which can be the basis of a good future for the club and its expected there will be a really good turn-out tomorrow. The Mariners are the region’s last team left in the FA Vase – a competition dominated by Tyneside and Northumberland clubs in recent years.

We all want South Shields to maintain that tradition.

If you don’t fancy a trip to South Shields, we’ve picked out some other fixtures you might be interested in. Eyes down, here are some we think might be a good day out:

Gateshead v Forest Green Rovers., International Stadium.

North Shields v Bishop Auckland, The Morgue.

Whitley Bay v Dunston, Hillheads

Heaton Stann v Esh Winning, Grounsell Park

Hebburn Town v Team Northumbria, Victoria Road West.

All matches KO at 3pm (I know, I know)

Where-ever you go be sure to get a pie, a pint, buy a programme, a pin-badge or whatever and put some money into the coffers of some great clubs which are a massive part of the football culture of the North East.
