Politics and Football? Some say you can’t talk about either without arguing and they might be right, but what’s wrong with a good argument? Anyway, it was the NUST Conference on Football Governance and Fan Engagement on Thursday and it turned out to be a really interesting conference. We had four excellent speakers and a decent turn-out of fans from around the country and the region including Newcastle City Councillors, all of whom were keen to ask questions and get into a bit of debate about the state of football today.

So, where’s the politics I hear you ask? Well, BBC TV came along to cover the event and were particularly interested in the angle of how fans can become more democratically involved in how the game is governed. We’ll be doing a more detailed piece about the conference in the next few days for those who couldn’t get there but in the meantime have a look at the Politics Show on Sunday lunchtime (BBC1 11.45a.m. – 1.00p.m.) to get a flavour of the day.
