1860 Munich 0 Newcastle United 3,

15/Jul/22, Pre-Season Friendly Saalfelden, Austria

And so the journey begins.

The highly anticipated 2022/23 season is almost upon us and the need to watch this current United team is reaching levels not seen in a long time.
On that basis, we decided to head out to Saalfelden in Austria to get our first view of what we hope will be a very good Newcastle United side over the coming months.
Now that’s not the easiest thing to do in the current, chaotic travel world. We opted for Manchester to Munich then train over to Saalfelden. Early morning car journey followed by having our eyes plucked from their sockets at the bar. Whatever your budget, some things are out of our control and airport beer prices is one of them.
So, a couple of hours on the plane to Munich, then a few train/beer stop offs and we arrived in Saalfelden. The things you do!
Match day, cloudy but hot, fucking hot. Probably a couple of hundred NUFC fans in attendance, plenty farces from the regular away ends.
A more than decent first 11 selected by Eddie Howe, and an inclusion of Elliot Anderson showing that he’s definitely under consideration.
The first half was pretty much a non event. Trying to play up the field, with Elliot Anderson in an advanced role, but never getting the players around him to see how good he is/could be.
However, I’d still expect more from an NUFC side against a German 3rd tier side.
Second half, and we stepped it up massively . Goals from Sean Longstaff , Joe Willock and Bruno giving it a slightly lopsided look, but to be fair, our extra quality was way beyond the opposition. So, onwards and upwards.
Tell us loyalty counts for nothing 😉
