After the nightmare of an enforced three week break we return to action at SJP this coming Saturday with something approaching hope in our hearts.
The last two homes have seen us despatch both Manchester United & Southampton, scoring four and letting in none. The atmosphere in both of these games was electric. The post match pints like liquid nectar. For all the crap which comes our way, these are the occasions we collectively live for.
This campaign has been for the most part, a fearful trudge. During the vainglorious Staveley ‘purchase’ we fell to bits. We were regularly beaten & also made a habit of snatching a point from the jaws of victory.
Rafa managed to bring in some real quality in goalkeeper, Dubravka and the excellent Barney Rubble on loan from perennial loaners, Chelsea. Hey presto, we turn a corner and start looking half decent. Imagine having an owner who’d back our Spanish maestro properly?
Anyway, back to Saturday and ‘uddersfield. David Wagner has done a canny job, thus far. As well as this he’s Herr Klopp’s pal and an all round crazy guy. He also has a bit of a punchable grid if you ask me.
But, I digress….A bit like United, most of their success seems to come from organisation and spirit. Mooy (who may be injured, I read) looks a decent act and striker, Mounie is a bit of a handful and looks a decent prospect.
However, if we can turn in a performance in any way reminiscent of our most recent homes we’ll have too much for the Terriers. If only football was that simple! I think this may well be a bit of a dogfight. Both teams know that this is a big chance to make relegation look a much more distant prospect with all three points. Huddersfield, in particular have a filthy looking run in and it will be interesting to see if they attempt to keep it tight or be a little more adventurous. Expect a few naughty ‘challenges’ if the game at theirs is anything to go by.
I’m gonna go for 2-1 to Rafa’s Mags with St James’ roaring us on. HTL.
