Granit Xhaka has seemingly played his last game for Arsenal, the Switzerland international was booed off the field at the Emirates against Crystal Palace. Xhaka’s reaction was wrong but understandable.

Steve Bruce and Newcastle United could offer Xhaka an escape from London. With the Euro’s just around the corner, Xhaka knows he has to be playing first team football in order to lead his country in the competition next summer.

Bruce is on the lookout for a new central midfielder, the arrival of Xhaka on Tyneside would be a major coup for Newcastle. Bruce has a relatively young side, Xhaka would bring experience as well as a wealth of leadership.

Bruce may have his critics but he could be the manager Xhaka needs right now. Bruce is the kind of manager that will put his arm around players and ensures they all see him as a father figure. Xhaka’s confidence is shot after being abused by his own supporters on and off the pitch. A move to Newcastle temporarily or on a permanent basis makes sense for all concerned.

Xhaka has a close relationship with Newcastle defender Fabian Schär, who played with each other at FC Basel as well as the national side. Schär could be the key to any potential move.

Xhaka needs to be needed, he certainly won’t get that feeling at Arsenal in the future. The midfielder thrives when he has the full confidence of the manager and players around him. At Newcastle he would have that – there is a tight knit group at Newcastle and with Bruce at the helm, Xhaka will be made to feel loved and important within the squad.

Xhaka will undoubtedly regret his actions when leaving the field against Crystal Palace, though he may have paved the way for a happier future on and off the field. Newcastle supporters are incredibly passionate, they love a player who will put a shift in, Xhaka will do just that.

Xhaka’s quality has come into question over the last few weeks and months, however, a move away from a toxic environment will undoubtedly restore his confidence. This has been a difficult period for Xhaka, a move to Tyneside just seems to fit nicely.

There have been reports linking Xhaka with a move to the Bundesliga but with the Switzerland international settled in England – A move to another Premier League club seems to be the logical option.

Newcastle have hit form recently, Bruce has the team playing some exciting football at times. Xhaka would fit into the current system really well, if Newcastle have the chance to bring the midfielder to Tyneside they shouldn’t waste a second in doing so.

Xhaka’s next move is vitally important, not only for the Euro’s but for his career. He cannot afford to sit in darkness for much longer at Arsenal, a January move is a must. There will be plenty of suitors for Xhaka, Newcastle will have a fight on their hands to ensure he joins his friend and international teammate, Schär on Tyneside.
