We are all living in strange times right now aren’t we? With this pandemic showing little signs of getting any better the country appears to be in a heightened state of concern. None more so than in the North East (Or God’s country as it’s otherwise known) where we above many other parts of the country are suffering the most with increased restrictions and unemployment is largely becoming the norm for too many. So what could possibly make this situation go from bad to worse? Step forward our good old friend’s the Premier League!

Not happy with blocking a takeover that could and many believe would have provided not just our football club with a regeneration but also our region, creation of jobs through new investment coming to the city much like Sheikh Mansour’s Manchester City takeover brought to Manchester is now by many of us a dream that died many a moon ago. Yet that seemingly isn’t enough for Mr Masters and Co, now they have decided in their infinite wisdom to charge fans a further £15 per game on top of the small fortunes many have been paying out in Sky & BT subscriptions.

This in itself is so unbelievably tone deaf given everything I’ve just suggested about the state of our current economic situations but for Newcastle Utd fans it’s even more of an insult as the club as many of us know pocketed our season ticket money and are still yet to refund this loyal beyond doubt fan base in any way shape or form. In fact their continued silence on the matter is more of an indication that they couldn’t care less about their fans situation than if Ashley went on Sky sports & just laughed at the camera with his middle finger stuck up.

It sounds so bad it’s hard to actually believe it’s true right? Yet even more cretinous is the news that all the clubs had the chance to reject this quite frankly heartless soulless corporate strategy and yet 19 of them with the exception of only Leicester City voted in favour of it. I mean wow! Clubs steeped in working class regions of the country, who supposedly cherish their fans that scrimp and save for their season tickets just told them exactly what they think of them wit

Does the club even care about us anymore?

Football is now firmly business first game second and I for one will be giving the likes of Sky & BT sweet FA in terms of this latest incentive especially given Nufc games seemingly are on this platform more than many other clubs (thanks again PL). I saw a wonderful suggestion that fans donate that £15 to the Nufc food bank which is a much more deserving cause than to  feed these fat cat mega rich villains of the people any further than we already have.

The sad truth is that the influence in the game from these types of people continues to grow and the measures they are willing to take in search of further financial enhancement has slowly but surely stripped away so much of the humanity and moralistic integrity from the game that it’s becoming so ugly it can no longer be referred to as the beautiful game.
